Poinsettia Red
The red Poinsettia is a common symbol for the Christmas season but here in Costa Rica they grow as big as houses. This one, on the road from Samara to Nicoya, shows the adjacent Hibiscus blossoms who’s the boss.

Lavae, I lived in Encinitas, Calif. for 33 years before moving to Costa Rica. It is considered the Pointsettia capital of the world because of a man called Paul Ecke. He is the man who developed many different strains of Poinsettias & marketed them worldwide as the official Christmas flower .One of the way’s the Ecke family got them noticed was to send a huge amount of them to Johnny Carson every year for free who would have them on his set for the whole season & tell the world where they came from. As beautiful as many of the varieties that he developed are, I don’t think I’ve ever seen any quite as vibrant & naturally lovely as I have in Costa Rica, something about the depth of the color & the way the light illuminates them is Muy Especial! Feliz Navidad to all my compadres! Enjoy the season & the pointettias!
