Tico Cultural Fiesta
Last Saturday evening, we were invited by the local folk dance troupe, Ceiba de Estrada, to enjoy a cultural presentation of history, food, and dance of Costa Rica.
- The dancers have been working together for 4 years.
- Their mothers must have worked almost as long in preparing a delicious selection of traditional bocas for us to taste.
- We started with picadillo de papaya, pork tamal, ceviche de coco, stuffed pork tenderloin, horchata de arroz, and carne en salsa. We finished with three desserts, none of which I could pronounce or recoognize.
- There were 3 costume changes, each representing a region of Costa Rica.
- Orange shirts and short pants for the fishermen from Punta Arenas.
- Green for the loggers and ranchers of Guanacaste, where water was carried in hand-made jars.
- Evenings and fiestas call for bright colors in satin.
- Of course, there was an audience participation number.
- Thanks to Zaida, Vinnie, and the gang at El Sueño Tropical for opening their kitchen to these well-seasoned but amateur chefs. And thanks to Peter for the photos.
Wish I could’ve made it. No car for 10days! Getting new doors after the accident in Nicoya! looks like a wonderful event!
It was a fun evening!
